musics. i just have to share
i love when there's an artist that i like, like florence + the machine that every song i hear on the radio or wherever is good. their first album, lungs - i liked all of the hits, but never just listened to the whole album. but i liked them enough that when their 2nd album came out, we bought it. and i listened my little heart out. and i LOVE the whole entire album. love it. my favorite time to listen is when it is just mikey and i in the car and i don't hold back at all. i belt it out along with her. and yes, i refer to her as flo.
i wasn't disappointed when ingrid's new album came out. i knew i wouldn't be. i love that girl. this album is heavier. i love it. i feel like if i've told you before to listen to her and you haven't, that i should think long and hard about why we're friends and possibly consider doing the block out. that's how strongly i feel about her. buy her albums. support this woman that i feel like i would be friends with.
my friend aimee at sprikspace [wh by the way is so incredibly generous and creative] has never led me astray. she recently recommended an album to me. i got on hold from the library for it. as soon as i popped that cd in my car the other day when i picked it up, i thought to myself, "that aimee-sprik-space, she's a genius!" [aimee, that's what garrett calls you & it has started to stick... hehe. he gives lots of people little nicknames to help himself remember names...] i have fallen for those guys named the head and the heart. i'm definitely a fan of this cd and i won't be returning it a day sooner than necessary to the library. [and then there will be a purchase, duh.]
so there you have it folks. this is my good deed of the day, sharing with you peeps.
get these three albums. someway, somehow. don't make me tell you again.

you put your arms around me and i'm home. [or you are. whichever]
i love this song. and when my man has been gone for 4 days, i get super sappy.
garrett, thanks for seeing through my walls. i miss you. i'm so glad you come home tonight.

mix tape mania 2011
Remember back in the day when blogging was fun? (yes, that is a dig. at you. at me. at all of us.) When we made new friends and we were all obsessed? Before Facebook and smart phones took all the personality out of blogging? Back when I was angry and cynical and needed a forum to vent about my students. My life. I loved blogging. I still do, but because this has always been a public journal for me. Not some way to whore out my craftiness (since I have none) or business (I was a terrible Mary Kay sales person). Just a good ol' fashioned place to interact and share. One of my favorite things we did was mixed tape sharing. Of course the tapes were CDs, but you get my drift.
I'm going out on a limb here and organizing a mix tape mania shares*alot. You have until Friday to let me know if you want to participate. Then I will email everyone over the weekend and let you know how many people are participating and how many copies you'll need to send. You'll mail to me, I will then mail out everyone's mix combos. I would like to have everyone get their copies to me by the end of next week & then I will try to get them mailed out ASAP. It could be fun if you balls up and participate. Leave a comment here if you want to do it with your email address.

the irony of this post is that i typed 95% of it on my iPhone. forgive my hypocrisy. please still participate. i've already thought up a lot of my playlist... think: adele + ingrid + gaga + florence... i'm excited!

2010 music top 10 list
in honor of trying to keep it real with blogging, i was thinking about suggesting we do a music mix up exchange... and i started compiling a list of my favorite songs from 2010. i didn't want to buy any songs, i wanted to use songs that i already had. and i realized i've had a sorta lame musical year. well, not lame, just not a lot of new. in fact, on my list - i could only come up with 3 songs. and i'm pretty sure some of them aren't even from 2010. sad.
there's gotta be more out there for me this year, right? share with me what i'm missing. go look at your itunes and what've been your favorite songs from 2010 & do a post on your blog. if you don't blog, email me. [drpepperjones at gmail dot com] i want a bunch of music to go round up.
here's my top 3 songs of 2010:
1. Parachute by Ingrid - way more poppy than most of her music, but momma likey.
2. Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys
3. Secrets by OneRepublic
other songs I've liked a lot, but don't own:
Dog Days by Florence and the Machine [although i must admit that the first time i heard this song, i thought she was singing in a different language. still thought it was pretty, but felt really felt dumb when i was told that it was in english & i just didn't understand.]
yeah... thats pretty much all i can come up with right now. i'm a music loser right now.
do share your lists.

jar of hearts
can't wait for her whole album to come out. i hope it doesn't disappoint.
this song speaks to me. i mean, like 4-5 years too late, but it still makes me feel stronger. and it reminds me again that i'm the luckiest girl in the world to have ended up with garrett.

"i'm cool, i like phil collins"
i'm talking to my dad on the phone right now. he's putzing [struggling] on iTunes. i like to make fun of his musical selections. he's got mason williams, the beatles and the eagles. he has been playing songs trying to make me guess what they are. go look up running bear on itunes. johnny preston. this is the kinda stuff that makes him get silly. i like him. i am excited to see him again this weekend, even if he says "five for flying" 100 years apparently always makes him cry, so "to heck with it, i'm not going to play it." don't even get him started on that eric clapton song "if i could change the world." big fat cry baby. he just called me an uncouth barbarian.

it started with one girl...
so, i got an email this morning from my mom saying "watch oprah today!" so i rushed home after subbing & missed the first few seconds, but caught the black eyed peas start singing "i got a feeling" personalized for oprah. gotta admit i really like that song. i was crying within seconds. i don't know if its just hormones, or my love of my hometown... it was amazing. they did this whole personalized song that was fun. then, the whole audience participated in the dance. this video isn't the best quality - i hope you got to watch it on her show. at first though, i was like "why isn't anyone but that spaz dancing?!?" but then it all made sense... enjoy. maybe even cry a little.

it stung like a violent wind

the concert was awesome. i'm not going to lie - there was a point when they first came on stage that i fought back tears. i choked it back, cause come on - but it was everything and more than i wanted. they didn't disappoint in the least. i love musicians who are simple & talented. there wasn't some big show - they just played & sang and momma surely did likey. but to me, death cab is one of those bands where i like all of their music. sure, i have a few favorite songs - but i can't think of any that i don't like. i'm going to tell us all that i was just having an emotional "i'm so happy & in love & excited that i'm here with my favorite person to hear one of my favorite bands" moment. [and i'm sure that warrents some mockery from at least jared & holly, but just you wait until no parents are around & then i'll dish out my defense.]
mostly, i realize that the quality of the video isn't the best & that probably no one but me, maybe garrett & maybe jamie will watch any of these videos, but i wanted to put them on here anyways, so deal.
[mom - i can easily give you a cd next time you're here of a little mix of some of my favorites, i know as soon as you figure out that death cab is a band, you'll be wanting some of their music. you'll likey, i promise!]
thanks again, jamie! it was a fantastic evening.

my mom would say: Question -
are you a fan of a few smaller posts or one giant one covering many topics, often known as "the catch up" post? this post is one of those lotsa topics ones.
what do you use to edit your pictures? a very generous donor recently sent me a photoshop elements disc, but said disc doesn't seem to work on my windows vista 'puter. [saddish tears rolling down my cheeks.] so i've been putzing more and more with picasa3 & liking what i'm finding. also, i recently found picnik.com & am enjoying that. contemplating looking into getting the "premium" package, but don't know if i could justify it.
enjoying the new dave matthews album. listened to him on the today show today & might've cried a little. i don't know, it's been a hard week... he was a little wierdish [drugs or drunk, i'm not sure] but his music is classic. moving, if you will.
i've been not feeling fabulous this week. uti, me thinks. although i don't know because the dr never got back to me with test results. i will say that i slept most of wednesday and thursday away... today i have big goals - running 2 errands & lunch with garrett. let's just hope i have the strength for it. i don't like wasting my off track time being sick. today i'm finally feeling a little more perky. i might do a bra & makeup combo... sure to knock any one's socks off. i know - i've got such ambitions.
[generous donor, your name has been omitted not because i didn't want to give you credit, but because i didn't want to get you in trouble in any way shape or form]

heaven in pandora
so... i've always known that pandora existed. and when i saw it was a free app on my iPod a while ago, i got the app... didn't really do much with it though & honestly, i don't think i've ever really been the website. i understood the concept of what pandora does... but i didn't embrace it. i was missing out! yesterday and today, i've been living large. i meant to blog about this yesterday, but then sunk into a funk over the news of my dad's surgery.but pandora is awesome. so simple. it's radio on the internet. and if you've got an iPod with wifi - your podder! momma sooooo likey. you go to the website. you type in an artist or a song. it creates a "station" with music similar to that artist or song. so far, i've created a station for ingrid, the shins, and lily allen. (garrett got me started on lily allen, i really hadn't heard her music before... but now, i'm finding it fun & playful. british = sassy music)
if you haven't yet, go take a gander. it's fantastic.

our love will pay the bills
big fan of ingrid over here. big fan. i've even seen her live (can i get a what what jamie?)
one of my current favorites is her song "you and i" it goes a little something like this:
Don't you worry there my honey
We might not have any money
But we've got our love to pay the bills
Maybe I think you're cute and funny
Maybe I wanna do want bunnies do with you if you know what I mean
Oh lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I
Well you might be a bit confused
And you might be a little bit bruised
But baby how we spoon like no one else
So I will help you read those books
If you will soothe my worried looks
And we will put the lonesome on the shelf
Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

garrett & i aren't rich, that's for sure. but everytime i hear the line "don't you worry there my honey, we might not have any money but we've got our love to pay the bills," i smile. cause that line hits home for me. i don't think we'll ever be rich & i'm certainly fine with that. but i do know that he'll take care of me and our future children.
we've been working a lot lately on getting a budget set up for ourselves. i'm motivated to stick to it, because i know where it'll put us for the future. and when i think about those things, i feel like the richest girl in the world. so watch out. i might start giving out nice sweaters. :)
ahhh... here's a little youtube linky if you wanna listen to the song.

some of my favorite musicians have new stuff coming out!!!
a) Death Cab for Cutie has a new album releasing next week. CAN'T WAIT. So far, I'm reading good reviews. Death Cab is one of my all time favorite bands. I love when they have new albums come out. I haven't found a Death Cab song that I don't like so far. Some I love more than others, but they're all good!b) Mason Jennings has signed with Bonfire Records (Jack Johnson's label) and will be releasing a new album sometime this month. I'm so excited. I love Mason. I've meant to blog about him for forever and a day. I don't know why I haven't. He's a unique sound, in my opinion. At first when I heard him, I crinkled my face & thought "what the?" But he's fun, funny & I quickly fell in love. A few of my favorite songs of his: Bullet (naughty language, be warned,) Be Here Now, Keepin' It Real, Butterfly, & California Part II(that's a cover...but you get the point). I expect great things from his new album. I've heard him in concert, he's great live, too. In fact, I want to post a you tube video... Enjoy
