good news! and some bad news...

garrett's drain was removed today!!! he no longer has a tube coming out of his side. just a little hole that should be sealing up pretty quick. his CT today was successful... he has another appointment with the surgeon tomorrow, just to follow up. the abscess is under control apparently, now we just need to make sure that the infection doesn't come back - he's still finishing up 2 antibiotics. and we'll find out more after tomorrow. yay for only having the drain in for a week!!!

another yay! for insurance. we got a bill slash statement for the hospital stint the first time around... even having to pay 20% of that would've been mighty painful. but garrett's work has great insurance & we've got a fairly low [considering the alternative of paying the whole thing which for that stay cost more than my car cost] deductible.

3rd yay! for financial preparedness. in march, i sat down and got serious about our finances... we're working on getting out of debt, building a savings and figuring out a way to live on one income, so that in the future i could not work & so we could survive... in just that short amount of time, we saved enough money to be able to pay the deductible for the hospital stays... which, as single people would've really hurt either one of us... so we both feel that it is a huge blessing that we had that money in savings.

a quick semi-boo to this whole appendicitis ordeal. besides the pain and suffering that he's had to go through [which warrants a full on boo, but i've been there & done that] it has sucked up our savings that we had, including some of the money that we were going to use to buy tickets to chicago in september... and it has sucked all of his P.T.O. [paid time off] so even if we had the money, we wouldn't have the vacation time. so... that trip is probably postponed until maybe march or something of next year. or may. or sometime else... who knows.

all in all, i'm just thankful he's FINALLY getting better, and that we're coming out of this without too much permanent damage. [coming from the girl who didn't have a drain tube & got to keep all of her organs] but really, i'm just trying to see the positives in the situation.

So glad he is better! And also so glad you were prepared for it all -- you guys are smart to be so organized and on top of things.

Yeah!!! Hurray for getting the drain out. I am also very proud of you for your financial preparedness. Way to go Hayley and Garrett. I think we are all trying to be better with that one :) I hope that Garrett finishes kicking this infection out the door.

That's awesome about getting out of debt, I'm a little jealous! :) I'm sooo working on that too! My bro, just got a BS in Finance from BYU and he sent me a SUPER spiffy spreadsheet that lays it ALL out (and then some!) Now I have goals, on paper, and it's quite exciting for me! :) Hurrah!

I'm excited to hear everything is finally working out! I can't believe how much you've both been through. Good to know you can get past the whole "sickness and health" thing. Happy Day! And you go off track in two days! Which means I get to see my kiddos again!
